Bulgaria is situated on the the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe.
The country’s area is 111,000 sq. km.
It has a 378 km coastline with the Black Sea to the east.
Bulgaria neighbors Macedonia and Serbia to the west, Romania to the
north and Greece and Turkey to the south.
Bulgaria has a varied landscape, with long sandy beaches, low planes,
and rugged mountains. The highest peak is mount Mousala 2,925 m.
The climate is moderate and with many sunny days throughout the year.
There are four distinct seasons, with warm summer and snowy winter.
The average annual temperature is 10.5 °C.
Bulgaria is a parliamentary democracy with a single-chamber parliament
and an independent President office. Bulgaria joined the European Union
in 2007 and NATO in 2004.
